Someone bought a lottery ticket that matched five numbers in the Nov. 10, 2004, drawing, but they never came forward to accept the $100,000 prize. The ticket holder has until Nov. 10 to claim the winnings.

Richard Lee, vice president of First American Title, said plans are being geared toward the creation of "pockets" of self-contained communities on or near the Strip.

Lee was the keynote speaker at Thursday’s Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) commercial real estate symposium.

If Mississippi`s casinos, trashed by Hurricane Katrina, do not rebuild, it could cost the state thousands of jobs and billions in taxes and earnings.

All 13 of the region`s casinos in Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis are closed and more than half were destroyed by the hurricane. Mississippi is losing $500,000 in gambling taxes every day.

Slot machine revenue

Both of Connecticut's mega-casinos Monday reported their best month ever for slot machine revenue, thanks to frequent promotions and a July that had five weekends.

Overall, slot revenue grew by about 3 percent over the same month a year ago, with 13,622 machines in operation around-the-clock at the Foxwoods Resort and Mohegan Sun casinos. Close to $2 billion was gambled, mostly on quarter machines.

British government under pressure over casinos

Tony Blair and his culture secretary, Tessa Jowell, are facing fresh questioning over their controversial legislation to introduce a new generation of casinos to Britain, amid Conservative claims that they misled MPs over rules against money-laundering.

Jowell’s Tory shadow, Teresa May, pounced on revelations in the local media Observer detailing exchanges between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Treasury about rules designed to curb criminals who use casinos to launder large sums of money.

New casinos

State regulators ordered Foxwoods Resort Casino to shut down an Internet promotion Friday, saying it violated Internet gambling laws and illegally expanded gambling off the Indian reservation.

The casino, among the world's largest, markets its "PlayAway" promotion as a way to play slots and card games from home.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Gaming Commission said Friday that it was reviewing a letter from the state Division of Special Revenue.
